Sarees are amazing Indian costumes that pose a great look on women, but saree draping has become a challenge to the youngsters due to the invasion of easy to wear dresses and western dresses.
Basic common Indian style draping:
Follow these few steps of wearing a Saree
- Make sure the inskirt is tight and firm, now start to tuck the plain end of the saree into the inskirt near the navel and bring it around your body once from right to left. Adjust the saree to your required height.
- Hold the pallu part and bring it around you once again and measure the required height for the pallu. Now put the pallu on to your left shoulder and hang it from back it can be upto knee or slightly below to that. This pallu can be pleated and pinned or simply be pinned to your blouse.
- Now you have to pull adjust the saree and pleat it near the navel. You can make upto 7 small pleats or 5 bigger pleats, make sure that they look evenly and fall straight. Now hold it tight and tuck it inside the inskirt. Take care to see the pleats are turned towards left.
- Adjusting the Pallu is very important, now pull the saree slightly and adjust the pallu and put it on the left shoulder. Pleating of the saree or leaving it free is upto your fashion, but it can be pinned in order to prevent it from falling.
A Few different styles of draping the sarees in different states:
Gujarati Style
In the Gujarati style saree draping one has to put the pallu in the front over the shoulder rather than going back. Sarees with catchy grand work pallus are best worn in this style.
Bengali Style
In the Bengali style of saree draping no pleats are there and elegantly draped around the body with a bunch of keys in the pallu end that falls over the right shoulder.
Maharashtrian Nauvari Style
In Maharastrian style saree draping, the women of Maharashtra wear a nine-yard saree called Nauvari. This is worn like a dhoti at the bottom and the upper portion is worn like a normal saree with the pallu tucked in the waist.
Coorgi Style
In the Coorgi style of draping saree that is in practice in Karnataka, draping a saree involves tucking the pleats in the back instead of the front and a little portion of the pallu is placed over the shoulder that passes through the chest region.
Gond Style
In Gond style, the cloth is first draped over the left shoulder and the remaining portion is then arranged to cover the body. Usually found and worn in many parts of Central India.
